The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said 36-year-old Benjamin Parker was found dead inside a vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington. Parker is a suspect in a homicide case in which five people were found dead at a rural Forest Grove property on Saturday, the sheriff’s office said.

The remains of five people and “multiple” domesticated animals were found on a rural Forest Grove property after firefighters were called to the scene of a car fire early Saturday morning in what authorities are calling a “complex” homicide investigation.

Washington County Sheriff Caprice Massey said Parker knew the victims but could not share further details about the nature of the killings. Massey added there is no ongoing risk to the community.

In a press conference earlier Sunday afternoon, Sheriff Massey and Deputy Shannon Wilde said investigators are still working on determining who the deceased are and how they’re connected as they still work on what they described as a large scene. Officials did not release any details about the cause of death for the five people found dead.

“I do want to emphasize, we do not believe this is a random act,” Deputy Wilde said, noting the investigation is still active and no one is in custody in connection with the case at this time.

“I will say in my 22 years here, I have not been a part of or witnessed a scene quite this complex involving this type of investigation,” Sheriff Massey said. “I’m just going to lead in and say that I recognize that this incident is deeply concerning to our community. Our investigators are working to determine what happened and we have dedicated every available resource to this case.”

At 5:27 a.m., deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene at 47350 NW Otis Lane in unincorporated Washington County to help Forest Grove Fire & Rescue crews after firefighters arrived to put out a vehicle fire, only to find human remains.

5 found dead on rural Forest Grove property in ‘complex’ homicide investigation

“We do have a deceased victim up here, we’re going to need law enforcement,” a member of the responding fire crews said over emergency dispatch radio traffic obtained by KOIN 6.

Ultimately, five people were found dead on the property along with domestic animals, according to Washington County investigators. Investigators did not immediately release information on what kind of animals were found dead.

Detectives with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Major Crimes Teams, an inter-agency law enforcement team, are investigating the homicides. Furthermore, teams from the Oregon State Police Crime Lab Forensics and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are also assisting in the investigation.

Investigators would not say if they had made contact with the homeowner during the Sunday press conference and asked residents in the area to be cautious.

Authorities are also asking anyone with any information about the property or its residents to speak with investigators.

“There are no details too small,” Sheriff Massey said.

A reverse 911 call was sent out to residents in the area warning of a potential safety risk, but it was lifted, a spokesperson for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office told KOIN 6 News on Saturday.
